Phrasal Verb - cụm động từ - là một trong những nội dung cần thiết cho tất cả người học và muốn học tốt tiếng Anh. Học Phrasal verb vô cùng quan trọng chúng giúp chúng ta vừa có được vốn từ vựng nói riêng và vừa có có được những động từ tiếng Anh cần thiết nhất giúp người học tiếng Anh làm chủ trong giao tiếp. Sau đây sẽ là danh sách Phrasal Verb bắt đầu bằng từ TAKE mà bạn nên biết (có thể ứng dụng vào IELTS).

Take aback

Nghĩa: Surprise or shock; to discomfit (gây bất ngờ)

Ví dụ: The bad news TOOK us ABACK.

Take after

Nghĩa: To have similar character or personality to a family member (giống)

Ví dụ: He TAKES AFTER his mother.

Take against

Nghĩa: Stop liking someone; to become unfriendly toward (chống đối)

Ví dụ: He TOOK AGAINST me when I was promoted over him.

Take apart

Nghĩa: Separate something into its parts (tách rời)

Ví dụ: I TOOK the radio APART to find out what was wrong.

Take aside

Nghĩa: Get someone alone to talk to them (kéo ra riêng để nói chuyện)

Ví dụ: I was immediately TAKEN ASIDE by the manager.

Take away

Nghĩa 1: Remove something and put it in a different place (đem đi chỗ khác)

Ví dụ: Mother TOOK our plates AWAY and came back with some fruit for us to eat.

Nghĩa 2: Remove something, either material or abstract, so that a person no longer has it (lấy đi, tịch thu)

Ví dụ: The teacher TOOK my mobile phone AWAY until the end of the lesson.

Nghĩa 3: Subtract or diminish something (lấy đi)

Ví dụ: If I have five apples and you TAKE AWAY two, how many do I have left?

Nghĩa 4: Leave a memory or impression in one’s mind that you think about later (để lại cho ai trăn trở/ suy nghĩ)

Ví dụ: I TOOK AWAY the impression that the play was under rehearsed.

Nghĩa 5: Make someone leave a place and go somewhere else (bắt ai đó đi)

Ví dụ: The police TOOK him AWAY for questioning.

Nghĩa 6: Prevent, or limit, someone from being somewhere, or from doing something (ngăn chặn ai đó)

Ví dụ: My job TAKES me AWAY from home most weekends.

Take away from

Nghĩa: Make something seem not so good or interesting (lấy đi, dập tắt)

Ví dụ: Even the rain couldn’t TAKE AWAY from the excitement of the match.

Take back

Nghĩa 1: Retract an earlier statement (rút lại lời vừa nói)

Ví dụ: No, you are not fat; I TAKE it all BACK.

Nghĩa 2: Cause to remember some past event or time (gợi nhớ)

Ví dụ: That tune TAKES me BACK to my childhood.

Nghĩa 3: Resume a relationship with someone (nối lại mối quan hệ)

Ví dụ: She has forgiven him, and TAKEN him BACK.

Nghĩa 4: Regain possession of something (giành lại sở hữu)

Ví dụ: The wedding is off, and he has TAKEN BACK the ring.

Nghĩa 5: Return something to a vendor for a refund (trả lại hàng)

Ví dụ: TAKE BACK faulty goods to the shop where you bought them.

Take down

Nghĩa 1: Remove something from a wall or similar vertical surface to which it is fixed (tháo xuống)

Ví dụ: He TOOK DOWN the picture and replaced it with the framed photograph.

Nghĩa 2: Write down as a note, especially to record something spoken (chép xuống)

Ví dụ: If you have a pen, you can TAKE DOWN my phone number.

Nghĩa 3: Remove a temporary structure such as scaffolding (tháo dở)

Ví dụ: When everything else is packed, we can TAKE DOWN the tent.

Nghĩa 4: Lower an item of clothing without removing it (kéo quần áo xuống) 

Ví dụ: The doctor asked me to TAKE DOWN my trousers.

Take for

Nghĩa 1: Regard as (xem như)

Ví dụ: Does he TAKE me FOR a fool?

Nghĩa 2: Consider mistakenly (nhầm)

Ví dụ: Sorry, I TOOK you FOR someone else.

Nghĩa 3: Defraud; to rip off (ăn gian)

Ví dụ: Pinkett angry that George betrayed trust, TOOK him FOR $100K.

Take in

Nghĩa 1: Receive (goods) into one’s home for the purpose of processing for a fee (lấy hàng về nhà)

Ví dụ: In hard times, some women would TAKE IN washing and others dressmaking repairs.

Nghĩa 2: Shorten (a garment) or make it smaller (bóp quần áo nhỏ lại)

Ví dụ: Try TAKING the skirt IN a little around the waist.

Nghĩa 3: Absorb or comprehend (tiếp thu)

Ví dụ: I was so sleepy that I hardly TOOK IN any of the lecture.

Nghĩa 4: Deceive, give a false impression (bị gạt)

Ví dụ: Everyone was TAKEN IN by his practical joke.

Take it upon oneself

Nghĩa: Assume personal responsibility for a task or action (nhận trách nhiệm về mình)

Ví dụ: She TOOK IT UPON HERSELF to manage the project.

Take off

Nghĩa 1: To remove something, usually clothing or accessories (tháo ra)

Ví dụ: It was hot so I TOOK my jacket OFF.

Nghĩa 2: Imitate, often in a satirical manner (bắt chước, theo một cách châm biến)

Ví dụ: They love to TAKE OFF all the politicians’ mannerisms.

Nghĩa 3: Leave the ground and begin flight; to ascend into the air (cất cánh)

Ví dụ: The plane has been cleared to TAKE OFF from runway 3.

Nghĩa 4: Become successful, to flourish (thành công)

Ví dụ: The business has really TAKEN OFF this year and has made quite a profit.

Nghĩa 5: Depart (khởi hành)

Ví dụ: I’m going to TAKE OFF now.

Nghĩa 6: Quantify (định lượng)

Ví dụ: I’ll TAKE OFF the concrete and steel for this construction project.

Nghĩa 7: Absent oneself from work or other responsibility, especially with permission (vắng mặt)

Ví dụ: If you TAKE OFF for Thanksgiving you must work Christmas and vice versa.

Take on

Nghĩa 1: Acquire, bring in, or introduce (mua lại, mang lên)

Ví dụ: The ship TOOK ON cargo in Norfolk yesterday.

Nghĩa 2: Begin to have or exhibit (xem như, giống như)

Ví dụ: In the dark, the teddy bear TOOK ON the appearance of a fearsome monster.

Nghĩa 3: Assume responsibility for (nhận trách nhiệm)

Ví dụ: I’ll TAKE ON the project if no one else will.

Nghĩa 4: Attempt to fight or compete with (chiến đấu)

Ví dụ: I don’t recommend TAKING ON that bully, since he’s bigger than you are.

Take out

Nghĩa 1: Remove (thủ tiêu, xóa đi)

Ví dụ: Please TAKE OUT the trash before the whole house starts to smell.

Nghĩa 2: Invite someone out socially, especially on a date (dẫn đi, mời)

Ví dụ:  Let me TAKE you OUT for dinner.

Take over

Nghĩa 1: Adopt a responsibility or duty from someone else (nhận trách nhiệm từ người khác)

Ví dụ: He will TAKE OVER the job permanently when the accountant retires.

Nghĩa 2: Relieve someone temporarily (thay phiên)

Ví dụ:  If you will TAKE OVER driving, I’d like to get some sleep.

Nghĩa 3: Buy out the ownership of a business (mua lại)

Ví dụ: Acme Motors is to TAKE Jetcar Industries OVER this week, if all goes as planned.

Nghĩa 4: Annex a territory by conquest or invasion (xâm chiếm)

Ví dụ: Ancient Rome TOOK OVER lands throughout the known world.

Nghĩa 5: Become more successful (than someone or something else) (thành công hơn, vượt mặt)

Ví dụ: Tiger Woods has TAKEN OVER as the top golfer.

Take pity

Nghĩa: Show compassion (towards) (thương hại)

Ví dụ: Someone please TAKE PITY on that homeless man in the rain and give him a place to stay overnight.

Take to

Nghĩa 1: Adapt to; to learn, grasp or master (thích nghi, học)

Ví dụ: She TOOK TO swimming like a fish.

Nghĩa 2: Enter; to go into or move towards (bay vào, đi đến)

Ví dụ: As the train rushed through, thousands of birds TOOK TO the air at once.

Nghĩa 3: Begin, as a new habit or practice (bắt đầu)

Ví dụ: After the third one was rejected, she TOOK TO asking the department to check the form before she submitted it.

Take up

Nghĩa 1: Pick up (nhặt)

Ví dụ: The reel automatically TOOK UP the slack.

Nghĩa 2: Begin doing (an activity) on a regular basis (bắt đầu làm)

Ví dụ: I’ve TAKEN UP knitting.

Nghĩa 3: Address (an issue) (giải quyết)

Ví dụ: Let’s TAKE this UP with the manager.

Nghĩa 4: Occupy; to consume (space or time) (chiếm)

Ví dụ: The books on finance TAKE UP three shelves.

Nghĩa 5: Shorten by hemming (rút ngắn bằng cách viền)

Ví dụ: If we TAKE UP the sleeves a bit, that shirt will look much better on you.

Nghĩa 6: Accept (a proposal, offer, request, etc.) from (chấp nhận)

Ví dụ: Shall we TAKE them UP on their offer to help us move?

Nghĩa 7: Resume (tiếp tục)

Ví dụ: Let’s TAKE UP where we left off.

Take up with

Nghĩa: Form a close relationship with (someone) (xây dựng mối quan hệ)

Ví dụ: I hear that John has TAKEN UP with Jane.

Take upon oneself

Nghĩa: Assume personal responsibility for (trách nhiệm trên ai)

Ví dụ: That’s an awful lot of work to TAKE UPON YOURSELF.

Take through

Nghĩa: Explain something; give a tour of a place (giải thích, tham quan)

Ví dụ: Stop by, and I’ll TAKE you THROUGH the new headquarters.
