1. Mang nghĩa "bắt đầu cái gì / làm việc gì đó mới"

=to start doing something regularly as a habit, job, or interest

2. Mang nghĩa "chiếm (chỗ / thời gian)

=to fill a particular amount of space or time

  • These files take up a lot of disk space.

  • This desk takes up too much room. 
  • My day is completely taken up with meetings.

3. Mang nghĩa "chấp nhận thử thách, lời đề nghị"

=to accept an offer or a challenge (=an offer to fight or compete) that someone has made to you

4. Mang nghĩa "cắt ngắn quần áo, lên lai quần áo / màn cửa"

=to reduce the length of a piece of clothing or some curtains

    • This skirt is too long – I’ll have to take it up.

    5. Mang nghĩa "tiếp tục / giải quyết / thảo luận"

    =to continue to discuss or deal with an idea, problem, or suggestion / to discuss or manage something

    • Mrs Pankhurst took up the cause of women’s rights.
    • The school plans to take the matter up with the parents.
