· Idiom

Idiom là những câu/cụm từ được người bản xứ thường xuyên sử dụng trong giao tiếp hằng ngày. Nếu bạn đang có ý định thi IELTS hoặc muốn nâng cao khả năng giao tiếp bằng tiếng Anh thì nhất định không thể bỏ qua bài viết này. "Sự có mặt" của idiom trong bài giao tiếp (IELTS speaking) là một trong những tiêu chí giúp bạn đạt điểm cao. Dưới đây là danh sách những Idioms bắt đầu bằng chữ "I".

If the Shoe Fits, Wear It

Meaning: If this description of you is accurate, accept it. (nếu lời cáo buộc là đúng, hãy chấp nhận)

Example: I know you don't like being called unreliable, but if the shoes fits, wear it.

I’m All Ears

Meaning: To be ready and eager to hear what one has to say (sẵn sàng nghe)

Example: Tell me about your first day at the new job—I'm all ears!

In a Heartbeat

Meaning: Very quickly; as soon as is possible (nhanh chóng, sớm nhất có thể)

Example: If you need me, just call—I'll be there in a heartbeat.​

In a Nutshell

Meaning: In summary; concisely (tóm tắt)

Example: In a nutshell, the app helps you to plan parties.

In Broad Daylight

Meaning: Out in the open during the daytime, when anyone can see what's happening (rõ như ban ngày, ai cũng nhìn thấy)

Example: The gangland feud is getting so bad that people are being shot in broad daylight.​

In Full Swing

Meaning: Well underway and continuing at a fast pace (tiến hành tốt và nhanh chóng)

Example: After a slow start, the convention is now in full swing.​

In Hot Water

Meaning: In need of help; in trouble (gặp rắc rối, cần giúp đỡ)

Example: I was in a bit of hot water with Janice last night when she found out I went to the movies instead of cleaning out the garage.

In the Blink of an Eye

Meaning: So quickly as to seem almost imperceptible (nhanh như cái nháy mắt)

Example: Working on Wall Street, you get used to massive financial changes happening in the blink of an eye.​

In the Crosshairs (Cross Hairs)

Meaning: In a position in which other people are eager to criticize or attack (vị trí bị mọi người chỉ trích)

Example: The CEO has been in the cross hairs of politicians and businesspeople alike for his recent comments on immigration.

In the Dark

Meaning: In secret; covertly (bí mật, bị che giấu)

Example: They must have signed that contract in the dark because our legal team definitely would have advised them against it.

In the Hot Seat

Meaning: Faced with harsh criticism or judgment (đối diện với chỉ trích)

Example: I was in the hot seat when the boss found out that I'd caused that error in the report.

In the Interim

Meaning: In the time before something happens (trước thời điểm việc gì đó xảy ra)

Example: We're in the process of hiring a new social media director, but in the interim we'll have to make do with our current staff.

In the Limelight = In the Spotlight

Meaning: At the center of attention (trung tâm sự chú ý)

Example: My sister loves being in the limelight, but I get really nervous on stage.

In the Long Run

Meaning: Over a relatively long or extended length of time in the future (trong một khoảng thời gian dài)

Example: I know it's a lot of money to spend on a mattress, but trust me, it will be worth it in the long run.​

In the Nick of Time

Meaning: At the last possible moment before a deadline or before something begins or ends; just in time (thời khắc cuối cùng)

Example: That car moved off the track in the nick of time—another moment and the train would have smashed into it.

In the Pipeline

Meaning: In progress or about to be started or implemented (trong tiến trình hoặc sắp được thực hiện)

Example: Don't worry, your raise is in the pipeline for next quarter.

In the Red

Meaning: In debt. (đang nợ, bị âm tiền)

Example: We're back in the red because sales are way down this quarter.

In the Same Boat

Meaning: Sharing a particular experience or circumstance with someone else (chia sẻ hoàn cảnh, kinh nghiệm với ai đó)

Example: My sister failed her driver's test, and I'll be in the same boat if I don't practice parallel parking.

Iron Out

Meaning: To resolve (giải quyết)

Example: Our latest software update is nearly finished—we just need to iron out a few things before it's ready for release.

Itchy Feet

Meaning: The urge to stray from one's routine, often by traveling (không thể ở yên một chỗ, thường đi du lịch khắp nơi)

Example: Every so often, Claire has itchy feet and sets off for a foreign destination.

It’s all Greek to me

Meaning: This might as well be a foreign language, because I don't understand it at all (nó có phải là tiếng nưcớ ngoài không bởi vì tôi không hiểu gì)

Example: Can you make sense of these instructions? It's all Greek to me!

It’s No Skin off My (Your) Nose (Back)

Meaning: It is no or very little concern of mine; it poses no difficulty, threat, or risk to me (không rủi ro, không bận tâm)

Example: Hey, it's no skin off my nose if you want to get a tattoo. I'm just saying that it's something you may regret someday.

It’s Not Over Till the Fat Lady Sings

Meaning: Do not give up too soon; things may improve (đừng bỏ cuộc, mọi thứ sẽ tốt lên)

Example: It's not looking likely that the senator will be elected to another term, but it ain't over until the fat lady sings.​
