I. CÁCH DÙNG "THIS / THAT / THESE / THOSE"
1. Giới thiệu chung
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- Các từ this / that / these / those có thể đóng các chức năng ngữ pháp sau:
- Đại từ (pronoun)
- Từ hạn định (determiner)
- Riêng that & this có chức năng là trạng từ (adv) >> IELTS TUTOR hướng dẫn That được dùng như trạng từ (adverb)
2. THIS / THAT / THESE / THOSE DÙNG NHƯ "ĐẠI TỪ"
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- THIS / THESE --> GẦN (CÁI NÀY / NHỮNG CÁI NÀY)
- THESE / THOSE --> XA ( CÁI KIA / NHỮNG CÁI KIA)
- Cách dùng ĐẠI TỪ (PRONOUN) tiếng Anh
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- This / That / These / Those dùng như đại từ có nghĩa là nó sẽ đứng 1 mình chứ không kèm theo NOUN(DANH TỪ)

Come and look at this. (nhìn cái này nè)
That’s a very good idea. (ý đó hay đó)
Can I have one of these? (cho mình 1 trong đống này được không?)
3. THIS / THAT / THESE / THOSE DÙNG NHƯ "TỪ HẠN ĐỊNH"
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- THIS / THAT + NOUN (DANH TỪ SỐ ÍT)
- THESE/ THOSE + NOUN (DANH TỪ SỐ NHIỀU)
- Cách dùng từ Hạn Định Tiếng Anh (Determiners)
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- Try to repeat this exercise every morning and evening. (this + singular countable noun) -> Đi với danh từ đếm được số ít
- I’ve never been to that part of France. (that + singular countable noun) -> Đi với danh từ đếm được số ít
- Can I have some of that juice, please? (that + singular uncountable noun) -> Đi với danh từ không đếm được
You can use any one of these computers. (these + plural noun) --> Đi với danh từ số nhiều
I need to paint those windows. (those + plural noun) --> Đi với danh từ số nhiều
THIS DÙNG TRONG CÁC TIME PHRASES (TỪ CHỈ THỜI GIAN)

- THIS + TỪ CHỈ THỜI GIAN (EVENING, AFTERNOON, MORNING, MONTH...): chiều nay, tối nay....

I’ll be with you some time this evening.
Johan seemed very happy this afternoon.
Ian is in Germany all this week.
II. DÙNG "THIS / THAT / THESE / THOSE" TRONG IELTS

- Các từ This / That / These / Those thường được dùng trong IELTS WRITING, IELTS SPEAKING để tránh việc bị lặp từ, tham khảo thật kĩ cách dùng trong IELTS để tránh việc lặp từ nhé

- Batteries are not bio-degradable, so people should not dispose of them in normal household waste. ==> Để tránh lặp từ thay batteries = them
- People dispose of batteries in their normal household waste. This causes environmental damage. ==> This thay cho cả câu phía trước tuy nhiên hai câu không nên nối nhau bằng dấu . mà phải có từ nối hoặc nối hai câu lại thành câu ghép nhé
III. CỤM CÓ "THIS / THAT / THESE / THOSE" THƯỜNG GẶP
1. this and that: cái này, cái kia, nói bâng quơ

- "What were you talking about?" "Oh, this and that."
2. (Is) this taken?
IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:
- mang nghĩa có ai lấy rồi hả, dùng trong đi xe bus, hoặc trong chương trình người ấy là ai nếu dùng he is taken có nghĩa là có chủ rồi, có bồ rồi nhé! (hoặc cũng có thể nói ngắn gọn this taken?)
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- Ví dụ 1: Excuse me, sorry to disturb you, but is this seat taken?
- Ví dụ 2: "This compartment taken?" she said to the man going into the adjacent room on the train.
- Ví dụ 3: A: "Hey, what are you doing?" B: "Oh, I'm sorry, is this taken?" A: "Yeah, I was studying at that desk! I just got up to use the bathroom."
3. at this point in time = at the moment hoặc (At this point)
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- We don't have all the details, but at this point in time, it seems that the suspect acted alone.
4. at this stage
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- I can't give you an update at this stage of the game—I have some more work to do on your car.
- At this stage, I'm not sure if we're in a serious relationship or not—we haven't been dating for very long.
5. be out of this world = be extraordinary
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:
- If you're having dinner at Janine's, then you're in for a real treat—her cooking is out of this world!
- That car service's exorbitant rates are out of this world. Can't we just take a taxi?
6. from this day on = From today onwards = Từ hôm nay trở đi

- From this day on, I resolve to take my responsibilities more seriously.
7. I just have this feeling

- Jennifer was supposed to be home an hour ago, and I just have this feeling that something bad happened to her.
8. in this day and age = Nowadays

- In this day and age, it's not uncommon to go your whole commute without speaking to a single person.
9. in this/that regard = Về mặt đó

- For all the company's problems, they still have a fantastic customer service policy. In that regard, they are unmatched by their competitors.
10. this is the life! = Đời là vậy
