II. Cách dùng
1. Mang nghĩa"trình bày, trưng bày, bày ra, bày biện"
=to spread something out, or to arrange things so you can see them easily/If you lay out a group of things, you spread them out and arrange them neatly, for example so that they can all be seen clearly.

- She opened her suitcase and laid her clothes out on the bed.
- A display of local history material was laid out on the table.
- Grace laid out the knives and forks at the lunch-table.

2. Mang nghĩa"làm rõ ra, giải thích một ý tưởng"
=to explain something carefully and clearly/To lay out ideas, principles, or plans means to explain or present them clearly, for example in a document or a meeting.

- The documents lay out the principles clearly enough.
- Maxwell listened closely as Johnson laid out his plan.

3. Mang nghĩa"bố trí, quy hoạch, sắp xếp"
=to arrange something according to a detailed plan, for example rooms in a building, roads in a town, or areas on a piece of land/To lay out an area of land or a building means to plan and design how its different parts should be arranged.

- The city was laid out with the town hall on a hill in its centre.
- The brochure is beautifully laid out and illustrated.
- I want to lay out my bed room. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Tôi muốn bố trí phòng ngủ của tôi.)

4. Mang nghĩa"khâm liệm"
=to prepare a dead body so that people can come to see it before it is buried/To lay out a dead person means to clean their body and dress them for people to see before the funeral.

5. Mang nghĩa"bỏ ra một đống tiền, vung tiền"
=to spend an amount of money lay out something for something/If you lay out money on something, you spend a large amount of money on it.

- They had already laid out a substantial sum for the wedding.
- You won't have to lay out a fortune for this dining table
- I had to lay out a fortune on that car. (IELTS TUTOR giải thích: Tôi đã phải bỏ ra một đống tiền để mua cái ô tô này.)
