Phrasal Verb - cụm động từ - là một trong những nội dung cần thiết cho tất cả người học và muốn học tốt tiếng Anh. Học Phrasal verb vô cùng quan trọng chúng giúp chúng ta vừa có được vốn từ vựng nói riêng và vừa có có được những động từ tiếng Anh cần thiết nhất giúp người học tiếng Anh làm chủ trong giao tiếp. Sau đây sẽ là danh sách Phrasal Verb bắt đầu bằng từ CUT mà bạn nên biết (có thể ứng dụng vào IELTS). Cut across
Nghĩa 1: To move across an area, often as a shortcut. (đi băng qua)
Ví dụ: We'll get there quicker if we CUT ACROSS the park.
Nghĩa 2: To break through a particular barrier (vượt qua ranh giới)
Ví dụ: Because that senator's views really seem to CUT ACROSS party lines, I think he'll be able to appeal to the most people as our presidential candidate.
Cut back/ cut back on
Nghĩa 1: Reduce spending (giảm tiêu xài, cắt giảm chi phí)
Ví dụ: We need to CUT BACK heavily ON office supplies. Is there another vendor we can use?
Nghĩa 2: Reduce consumption (giảm lượng tiêu thụ)
Ví dụ: He needs to CUT BACK ON doughnuts. He weighs 289 pounds!
Cut down/ cut down on
Nghĩa 1: Bring down by cutting (chặn đổ)
Ví dụ: They want to CUT DOWN several trees to make room for the parking lot.
Nghĩa 2: Reduce the amount of something (cắt giảm)
Ví dụ: He wants to CUT DOWN ON extra steps.
Cut in(to)
Nghĩa 3: To move ahead of someone or something in line before it is one's turn (chèn lên, chen hàng)
Ví dụ: The guy from the back of the line totally just CUT IN!
Nghĩa 4: To interrupt someone or something (ngắt lời, chen vào)
Ví dụ: I'm sorry to CUT IN, but I have some information that might help.
Cut off
Nghĩa 1: Stop providing funds to someone (ngừng chu cấp)
Ví dụ: His parents CUT him OFF to encourage him to find a job.
Nghĩa 2: End abruptly (kết thúc đột ngột, ngắt)
Ví dụ: My phone call was CUT OFF before I could get the information.
Nghĩa 3: Interrupt (someone speaking) (ngắt lời)
Ví dụ: That dingbat CUT me OFF as I was about to conclude my theses.
Nghĩa 4: Turn off or switch off (an electrical device) (tắt điện, ngắt cầu dao)
Ví dụ: CUT OFF the lamp so I can get some sleep.
Cut out/ cut out on
Nghĩa 1: Refrain from (doing something, using something etc.), to stop/cease (doing something) (cai/ giảm tiêu thụ cái gì đó)
Ví dụ: He had to CUT OUT smoking in order to be prepared for the marathon.
Nghĩa 2: Remove, omit (loại bỏ, tẩy)
Ví dụ: If we CUT OUT the middle-man, we will both have better profits.
Nghĩa 3: Separate from a herd (tách đoàn)
Ví dụ: The cowboy CUT OUT the unbranded heifers.
Nghĩa 4: Stop working, to switch off; (of a person on the telephone etc.) to be inaudible, be disconnected (ngừng hoạt động, tắt, đứt kết nối)
Ví dụ: It was around then that the engine suddenly CUT OUT.
Cut through (something)
Nghĩa 1: Deal with an issue quickly (giải quyết vấn đề nhanh chóng)
Ví dụ: Can we CUT THROUGH the bureaucracy and make a decision on the spot?
Nghĩa 2: Take a shortcut through (cắt ngang, đi đường tắt)
Ví dụ: I usually CUT THROUGH the woods to get home, but last night it was too dark.
Nghĩa 3: To slice something and penetrate its surface. (cắt xuyên qua bề mặt)
Ví dụ: I don't think that knife is sharp enough to cut through the fruit's tough rind.
